Warm season grasses such as Bermuda, zoysia and St. Augustine to go dormant and turn brown during the cold months of winter. Over-seeding with cool-season grasses can be a solution to keep your lawn green during the cold months.
When over-seeding, you are actually in the existing planting grass and warm season perennial ryegrass are well suited for this purpose. Before over-seeding warm season grasses green grass assures continuous idle throughout the winter. Preparation of seed bed should be sufficient to establish a good drop, but at least enough to allow adequate recovery of the grass next spring.
St. Augustine and Zoysia grass are not suitable for re-planting rights. However, the grass can be over-seeded in the green landscape throughout the year.
Preparation and planting
Grass reseeding season soon calm again in the fall of a fine irregular structure. Bermuda grass is actively growing non-compete weeds, but if planted too late, delayed growth at low temperature to produce a bad setup. The best time to reseed the lawn should be October 1 and November 15.
